King keg top tap for sale €30 13 years 9 months ago #1

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="www.thehomebrewcompany.ie/king-keg-top-t...valve-cap-p-433.html">www.thehomebrewcompany.ie/king-k ... p-433.html
I bought this ~1 year ago from the HBC. Tried using it 3/4 times to keg my beer. The gas always leaked so it never carbonated. The second last time I noticed the O-ring which seals the lid was actually too small and HBC sent me on a new one. I tried it one more time and it still didnt carbonate so Im giving up on it. If you look around the web and here you will find numerous problems with leaks and solutions.

The premise of the keg is great as the tap is located at the top so you can put in a bath of iced water etc and it also fits into a normal sized fridge if you take a shelf or two out.

I've upgraded to a cornie keg and wasn't arsed trouble shooting this king keg any longer so am selling. It includes <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="www.thehomebrewcompany.ie/spare-plastic-bulb-holder-p-114.html">www.thehomebrewcompany.ie/spare- ... p-114.html and I think I may have one unused co2 cartridge to throw in too.

€30 ono

How does the barrel dispense if the gas leaks and there's no pressure? Does it have a siphon action somehow?

Were you trying to force carbonate with it??
That would require a good few bulbs of gas.

In my experience with these they work grand when you prime with sugar - then use a co2 bulb to dispense the last bit.
The problem surrounding that is sometimes as the bulb is being pierced, some of the gas leaks outside instead of into the keg.

I have used basic barrels, which are similar and a trick to getting a good seal is to coat the o ring in KY jelly.

no didnt try to force carbonate it, primed with sugar, opened tap after 2 weeks and no beer, injected co2 and hissing noise followed! beer flat but not sugary with plenty of yeast at the bottom

Used various amounts of vaseline, once using nearly a whole tube.

Re siphon. Maybe if you attached a long enough tube to the tap you could get a siphon action going? That wouldn't solve the lack of carbonation though <!-- s:( --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_sad.gif" alt=":(" title="Sad" /><!-- s:( -->
