Well I think what Brian is trying to do here is to give them a good start that prevents them from turning out a bucket of vinegar on their first go, which is quite common when you read the likes of Jims.
So price maybe a concern but a bit of guidance and the correct materials to sanitise correctly could help them no end.[/quote:i17jyjrx]

That shouldnt cost extra - its just information. Sanitiser is sanitiser is sanitiser there's millions of different ones doing the same thing at different prices - if you use them properly they work. There's no magic widget. you can sanitise with bleach/vinegar and thats the cheapest form.

I get your point, but you are not talking from a position of complete noobiness, how many people find their way here after they've ballsed up the first go, or never find their way here because the first go was ballsed up and they gave up?

I'm with James on this, cheap, cheap, cheap.
Whether we like it or not most people get into homebrewing for cheap beer.
My thinking is that the cost of a beginner set-up with a beer kit should be below the price of 40 tinnies.
I just might be a skinflint, but at that price it can be justified and built on as you grow into the obsession.

Simple basic essentials, bucket, sypon, thermometer, sanatiser, beer kit, 1/2kg spraymalt!
Some decent literature and pointers to online information.
