drool! i want one!

I'm trying to get two of these, but I'm a bit nervous about scaling up so much. I guess that I don't have to use the full capacity on them, but would have the option to do huge batches. It might be more beer than I need though. I was looking to scale up anyway, but not this much, but they look like lovely pieces of kit. I am trying to find out how much it would be to courier them from London to Cardiff and whether he will hold onto them for a week or so until there is someone at home in Cardiff. He hasn't come back to me, so reckon he is might be trying to shift them as quick as possible, and therefore won't want them hanging around. If I get them, i will put them to good use, but if I don't I won't mind too much either.

What do people think of such large vessels for a home brewer who is only currently doing average size batches? Am I mad?

Ebay users who say pick up only are normally only interested in people calling around and putting cash in their hands. Hence they say COLLECT IN PERSON.
Maybe he will answer but you're adding a layer that he's said he doesn't want which is delivery, maybe he'll make an exception....

It is a very big system you are building with that. Now I think that is cool, but you would be producing a lot of beer per batch. 100l with room to spare and probably 50l minimum. That's a full sized pub keg at least per batch.

Also bear in mind that, while this is the core of your brewery, you will also need other stuff, like I said in my last post.

The mash tun will need a false bottom, which Hop and Grape will make for you if you don't know someone who does that sort of thing.

You will need a HLT, to hold sparge water, so you can sparge while you run off into the boiler. That could be a large insulated polypropylene tank though.

You will need fermentors which can hold 100l of beer while it is fermenting, which means over 100l capacity and then you will need a way of controlling them temperature while it is fermenting.

I'm not trying to put you off, but these are things you will need to think about.

My brother is in London, so he would be sorting out payment and collection, but I do think the scale up is a step too far in reality, at this stage in my brewing life. It would really cut down on the variety of brews that I would do, as I would be brewing less often.

I have two stainless steel drums which are about 70 litres. They are thin enough, so would need insulating, but I think I will go with these instead, as I already have them, and can spend the saved money on gas burners, pumps, etc.

I kind of new it would probably be too much for me, but just wanted confirmation. It's just that they looked savage.

Thanks for the feedback lads.
Billy.
