new bricks and mortor shop in athlone 16 years 9 months ago #1

Hi everybody its Donal I have opened a shop in athlone county Westmeath. I will admit that I don’t know everything my basic foundation is that my dad has been making wine from fresh ingredients that he picks himself for as long as I can remember. And I have tried a few that way as well I’ve done a lot of kits easy I know. I am learning as much as I can as fast as I can.

True I have no grain no hops yet but when I opened I had no idea that so many people were still doing it even my father has stopped and everyone said the same I opened with the idea of beginners in mind but hey I’m in business if I want to survive I will evolve and change or incress my stock range to suit the need of my customers.

I will always try my best to get anything that I am asked to get and I will always try to have happy customers but please bear in mind that I’m new and I didn’t know what would sell so stayed mainly wit basic stuff but if there is a demand I will change that no problem

Welcome Donal,
I hope the shop goes well for you. If the weather keeps up, I might take a spin to athlone over the weekend. I've moved on from the kits so it's unlikely that you'll have too much that I want at the moment, but I'd like to see the place anyway. Also, I might pick up a couple of extra fermenters/demijohns, will see what impulse purchases take my fancy!

Welcome to the site Donal. Great to have a homebrew shop you can actually walk into, in the country again.

If you have any questions, we are here to answer them. You should also look at our knowledge base for articles which will help bring you up to speed on the beer side of things.

I was just thinking, should we try to put together a list of products that are reckoned to be musts for homebrew shops to stock? Possibly include current prices available as well. I was toying with the idea of starting a bricks and mortar shop (not very seriously, but just kinda daydreaming) and I reckon that might be one of the best ways to ensure sales for the shop and a worthwhile place to shop for the rest of us. Plus if I ever go beyond daydreaming it'd be a nice place to start the research!

Not sure of the address but it is opposite "the shack" pub right which itself is beside the topaz (i think)garage on the way in to town. Its after AIT and before the roundabout leading to Golden Island.

If you head in from the Dublin side towards the town then its on the right with topaz and the shack on the left.

Just one thing, he does not or did not have credit card facilities when I was in but there is an ATM in the garage across the road.
