OK, so it's a permanent facility. Well that's a bit easier. Assuming this is a bar on campus run on behalf of the college, the organisers should be taking it to the college management, and pointing out that what the bar was doing was illegal and should not be allowed happen again. There could even be a legal liability issue for the college if it runs the bar directly (though I assume it contracts it out to another catering firm).

If you're talking about a completely independent bar, open to the public, then either write to them formally or go directly to the National Consumer Agency.

I'm fuming just reading this... I don't like the plastic "glasses" but to be knowingly shorting on anything let alone something with excise duty is intolerable...

I have sent an email to someone who may or may not be the right person to deal with this, but maybe they will direct me. I sent it from my work account, as people tend to take that email address seriously <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->

When I worked in bars as a student I saw that students were quite often ripped off as no one took them seriously as they don't tend to know how to complain.
I remember being at student gigs where it was free bar until say 4 kegs were emptied. They'd attach half empty kegs and pocket the difference, drunken students never noticed anyway.......It was painful to know it was going on when I knew a load of the lads from Trinity drinking there on one occassion, but hey it was my job and I wasn't profiting.

If they were charging a fiver for a pint, you should've ordered your drink and after it arrived, given her €3.50 as payment on the assumption that they were charging on a pro rata basis.

After the inevitable protestations that you hadn't paid enough money, the obvious response would be that you hadn't been given enough beer.

Scratch what I said above. ^^ This is exactly what you should have done.
