Planning a trip to Dublin 18 years 4 months ago #1

Hello,
I'm quite new here, so pleasant to meet you all here.
Please allow me to introduce myself as a Belgian Beer Lover who will come very shortly to Dublin (28dec2007 untill 02jan2008). I already have a lot of places to visit, but logically it should be great to have additional info from insiders and locals as you all.

So shoot...I'm listening... <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D -->

Well, it depends what you're interested in. There's the handful of outlets that will serve you Irish craft beer; and then there's the classic Dublin pubs, virtually none of which will serve you anything except factory-made blandness.

As a beer lover rather than a pub lover, you'll presumably be wanting the former, so that's Messrs Maguire (Burgh Quay); The Porterhouse (Parliament Street, Nassau Street and Cross Guns Bridge) and The Bull & Castle (Christchurch).

And welcome to the group.

My preference is to find some authentic beers, possibly visiting an interesting brewery. And as well some pubs where I can taste these.

Besides, is there someone who can tell me more about the Guinness Brewhouse Series? Where to taste?

And if it's possible, where I have to be to taste some good whiskeys.

Mass-produced nitrogenated stout and kegged ale and lager have been the authentic beer of Dublin for about half a century now. There isn't much else available.

Most stockists will have a poster in the window if they have it inside.

Hi Linty
dont worry about missing out on the brewhouse series they were all VERY much along the same lines as regular Guiness.

Linty, it might be worth your while picking up a copy of [i:p40ibhz1]Beer & Cider in Ireland[/i:p40ibhz1] (Amazon.fr[/url:p40ibhz1] / Amazon.co.uk[/url:p40ibhz1] - or bookshops in Ireland). Lots of good information there.
