Popped into Franciscan Friday evneing - had a pint of Messrs Mauire Bitter 7.5% from cask - tasted really good at a nice temperature. Also had a pint of Purgatory but I think my taste buds were a bit compromised after the great MM pint so will have to revisit this again?!

Some posters up re the festival. On Saturday and Sunday fropm 2 p.m. each day. Posters say Belgian, German, Polish, Lithuanian and Russian beers and mentioed names like Tyskie, Lech etc. I think it will be a bit diferent to other years as in the past it was only German and Belgian. Spoke to Shane there who said it will be their biggest selection for Oktoberfest yet. Will have to wait and see whether it will just be a bigger selection of lagers or of different types of beer. Will have to wait and see.

Am going to the Bierhaus this evenitng so will do an update re same soon!

Looks like we have a lot of the same beers as the B&C between the Well and Bierhaus. In the Franciscan in Cork, Paulanar in bottle rather than on draught. Actually all German beers are in bottle form.

Popped in there last night with Rebel following an initial visit to Bierhaus. I will do note on Bierhaus thread re same.

Had a pint of Le Chouffe and sampled Rebel’s Westmalle Duble. The Duble was very good but I would be concerned if people drank too many strong beers there! Followed same with a Shandon stout and a bottle of Baltica 9 which I never had before, another strong lager (knew the guy at that stand so felt half-obliged to support him!) Similar set up to previous years. Intend going again today to intend concentrating on German beers, Paulaner and Hoffbrau Oktoberfests and Hacker Pschoff hefe weisse – never had any of the before so looking forward to same.

Going early and home early!!

Not sure whether I am going on Sunday or not.

OF COURSE ALL FRANCISCAN BEERS TOO!!!!

As Ger said the beers on offer were similar to previous years. A lot of the beers such as Hommel and Golden Draak were high alcohol so you would do well to hit too many of them. The atmosphere was very good and it seems the demise of Eurobeers didn't affect the choice much.
