Lol! I don't mean to imply that they taste anything like Guinness; only that I've heard far too many people refer to "stouts" as "Guinness"$$ like the style itself is called "Guinness" instead of it being "stout". This includes an O'Brien's employee...
-No joke, the sentence started off (while referring to Dungarvin Black Rock Stout) "Well, as this is a Guinness..." I didn't bother to listen to the last half of the sentence for obvious reasons.
Educating the average beer consumer/(sales person?) is an uphill battle for sure.

I reckon most people think they're lagers. Many of the people who regularly drink them would never have tried them if they were told they were an ale beforehand.

I was talking to someone in a well known home brew supplier recently who came out with the statement during the course of conversation: "they managed to brew a Guinness last weekend"
