I didn't like the Alt to be honest .

Thought it was too drying on the palate . tasted alright at first , but a few sips in I was gasping . not a thirst quencher .

Alt can be a great beer, try it in Dusseldorf where it belongs, Frankenheimer was one of my faves, and Diebels isn't too bad as a high volume standard up North.

Further to my previous post I returned to the Bierhaus again over the week-end to sample some of the other superb beers on offer this past week-end.

On Saturday I decided I would concentrate on stouts and I think this was a great choice. I started off with bottles off the shelf of Belfast Black, Porterhouse Plain and Molly’s Chocolate Stout. The Molly’s was so nice I had a second bottle. I was most impressed with the latter and with Belfast Black but was somewhat disappointed with the Porterhouse Plain which is a beer I had on draught in the PH before but I know this is a different animal. I will have to revisit this stout again and have it as a first beer some night. Maybe the fact that the stout is not as dry or distinctive as the others made it different to my taste buds but I will try it again!!!!

I followed these with a couple of pints of Oyster Stout from PH which I had previously on the Thursday. Needless to say I was not disappointed with this choice!. As I mentioned previously it was great to get one of the PH stouts to the Bierhaus festival.

At other stages over the week-end I had another pint of Big Daddy IPA on Friday evening and a bottle of Butte Creek organic pale ale on Sunday evening which I found both very refreshing. I had the Butte Creek after a few drinks before that in the Franciscan yet I was still hit by the refreshing flavour of this beer so again I will have to sample this as a first drink sometime and hopefully it will blow me away as the Big Daddy did.

All in all I would like to compliment Dave for having a great selection pf guest beers on this past week-end. I think for a bar of the size of the Bierhaus the selection was fantastic and the bottle and draught menu contained many beers making their debut in the bar or indeed in any bar in Munster . I also think the choice was broad and it was a very well constructed menu with an emphasis on Irish beers with some quality international additions also.

I would think it would be hard to put a menu together for next year that would surpass this one but no doubt there would always be room for some tweaking of same.

Cheers too to Dave, Milan and Andrea for constant great friendly service in the Bierhaus.

It was also great to meet up with some regulars in the Bierhaus and ICB members, BITR, GrimRob, Bigears (first time to meet you man!) and Morgan and Chocolate Stout amongst others.

Here’s to next year’s festival!!!!

There was a great selection on for the festival and I enjoyed the Bierhaus as much as my previous visits. Big Daddy on tap was wonderful although not one to drink all night given the 6.5% abv. It's a while since I've had Oyster Stout and I had forgotten how nice it is, it doesn't get mentioned as often as Wrasslers or Plain but it's a top class stout in my book. It was good to meet Ger and the rest of the Cork ICB contingent who made it in and here's hoping I can get in for a pint when I'm down between Christmas & New Year.
