Is Murphy's Irish 18 years 7 months ago #1

On a similar topic to the Árainn Mór post (I didn't want to thread jack), ratebeer.com has Murphy's listed as an Welsh beer.

As the over-sensitive Cork man that I am, I sent a correction to the admins saying that it is from Cork and is brewed by Heineken Ireland. I got a polite response informing me that because its brewed in Wales its a Welsh beer. Maybe the Murphy's exported to the U.S. is brewed in Wales, I don't. However Guinness, Beamish and even Árainn Mór are listed as Irish.

Any one understand this one?

Bizarre. By this reasoning you could claim that Budweiser and Heineken are Irish because they're brewed in Kilkenny and Cork.

Perhaps you can point them to the Murphys website (perhaps with a picture of the actual Murphys Brewery). The fact that it is brewed in Wales amongst other countries does not take away from the fact that is an 'Irish' brewery.

Not that it's Irish owned of course but that's for another day.

It could be confusion because of the Murphy's 3.5% stout (WTF is that?), which is presumably a Welsh special.

I tried Murphy's Red during the summer and thought it was decent. It actually tasted a little malty

This is an improvement on the other big brewery reds in my book. Wonder where it's brewed?

If Kieron ever gets to writing that "Beer Destination: Walkinstown" article you'll know where to go
