I have to agree with Delzep
Mongozo Banana is definitely one of the worst beers I've ever had. Such an overwhelming artificial banana flavor...
A WONDERFUL craft brewery in Colorado, Avery makes some great beers but their 15th Anniversary Ale, "15" was either their first Brettanoymces fermented beer or their first 100% Brett fermented beer and they DEFINITELY chose the wrong conditions and strain; you want to talk about "horse blanket"/"barnyard funk"...?? -It tasted like a dairy farm smells. Unbelievable.
Reuben's not going to be happy with this one but "New Holland Brewery" in Michigan just seems to have a really phenoly (bandaid phenols, not clove or banana) yeast strain and they certainly don't restrain it; they've made an oak-wood smoked doppelbock that was designed to be paired with pork dishes; it is called Charkoota. The phenols were already pretty harsh from their yeast strainu and they added harsh oak smoke and the combination was NOT good. -There's some definite parallels between this beer and Laphroaig whisky; if you don't like the taste of licking a chimney, stay away from both!
Another strange one was at a craft brewery in Washington D.C. called "Capitol City"$$ their Kolsch had a fairly strong bleach taste. -They probably didn't pay close enough attention to the percentage of bleach in their home-made sanitizer. Bleach beer does NOT taste good.
