I can recommend Port Street Beer House. They always have an interesting selection of cask and keg/craft beers.
Other good pubs in the Northern Quarter are The Castle, Crown and Kettle, Bar Fringe, Smithfield and The Angel. Do them in that order and you will end up very close to the M.E.N.

Yeah forgot to come back to this thread - Port Street is very nice though I was coming down with the flu and was depressed after seeing City lose to United in the Cup so probably wasn't at my best. <!-- s:( --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_sad.gif" alt=":(" title="Sad" /><!-- s:( -->
