The Old Boro ios owned by the same people who own Farringtons in Templebar. I've been in their quite a lot recently as it keeps the non craft beer heads happy and I can still get my fix of hops. Barry, the manager, advised that they will be constantly expanding their craft beer stock until they can compete with the big boys, B&C etc...., Im assumimng that this will bode well for the Old Boro with regards to craft beer anyway.

Unfortunately Gibeys have removed 2 of the four fridges in the back of their off license - and replaced them with wine fridges. They have a shocking selection of beer (the bad shocking), of course miller lite takes up half the fridge.

Its a shame such a large pub has a terrible selection - as a local resident - I dont think they deserve to be on the directory for such a poor effort.

On a brighter note - the obriens in Malahide off license has expanded its beer selection - it rivals mc hughs in Kilbarrack now - simply fantastic.

They're in the Directory because I saw a little standy thing on the bar which said they sold bottled O'Hara's Stout. Can anyone confirm if it's actually possible to buy an Irish craft beer in Gibney's?

I've heard that not only does the Old Boro have craft beer now but it has expanded to their other pub (I believe they're same owners) The Hawthorne Hotel (or 'Forty Four' as it's called now) and I saw on their facebook page that they have Metalman on tap...

My mind is officially blown, I'm actually excited to return to Swords for a visit as this time last year it was an absolute beer wasteland.

I'll be venturing into both on Friday to see if all these tales are true. I really hope Swords embraces the craft beer scene because it would be a crying shame if both bars were to revert back to the usual old muck and it might start to give the likes of The Cock Tavern a run for its money.

PS: Bring back the Hawthorn !! <!-- s:-) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt=":-)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:-) -->

The 44 (hawthorne hotel) seem to be posting a lot of craft beer and food deals on their facebook page. Might be worth keeping an eye on for you North County people...
