I know absolutely nothing about this, but it seems like a good idea: a Dublin pub run on a co-operative basis.

There's a wiki here[/url:wbto9qt8] and a Facebook group here[/url:wbto9qt8], if anyone's interested.

[i:1tgot5r0]"This would be a place to hang out, to drink, to volunteer, to run events, to create; to connect; to go when you're looking for something to do! A place to hang out with your friends and make new ones by taking part in the project."[/i:1tgot5r0]

The image that comes to mind is a but like a coffe shop where people just sit around playing games while spending very little and contributing just as little. Would the relevant authorities allow a business with an alcohol license, to be run by volunteers. Golf clubs run by [b:1tgot5r0]members[/b:1tgot5r0] are few and far between because of differences in how some want the business run. They're mostly run by management companies at this stage. Also, a business is not a project. It's a very serious affair with disastrous repercussions for all involved if it goes tit's up.

I see a lot of pitfalls, including objections from residents , local publicans and other groups, but best of luck anyway.

I think I may have floated this ieda on here after seeing the UK supermarket co-op TV programme... with tongue in cheek.

I agree, I think it is a disaster waiting to happen.
Although, it would be a great forum to practice your craft brewing wares.
You could get lots of great kit and not have to spend all your own money on it.

How is it funded?

Finer details such as this seem to have been left out!!

It could be done using the club licence, but it would be an uphill struggle. To do this you would need money and a group of dedicated volunteers who cannot make any money out of it. Nice idea but unlikely to work.
