tesco discounts on irish craft beer and english ale 14 years 5 months ago #13

well my dad wont buy a beer unless its on sale unless he really likes it. i am hoping somone who may drink smithwicks to try some oharas ipa and discover the taste of real beer and want to get it again.

by putting the beer out there to the masses who are there picking up nappies and milk it may open it up to a wider market esp if its on sale

dont know about tesco havent checked there but dunnes have offers as well.
speckled hen (€1.99), hobgoblin ruby (€1.99), fullers london pride(€2.29), old perculiar ale(€2.39) on a 2 for €3 deal.

also got a innis and gun 750ml 6.6% €4.74 its a clear bottle and clear bottles I really think are a nono in beer so no idea whats in it. abit pricy but I like trying new beers so its a what the hell thing.

Was some english craft beers there as well the main one I remember is "Old Engine oil" a stout that I though had a not so sellable name or the description of viscius. Will pick that selection up again, get nagged enough for buying "loads" of beer, especially when I brew my own.

Don't let the brewery hear you thought they were English though <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D -->

Very much Scottish; they make a lot of good stuff.

My understanding of how Tesco (and to be fair other large multiples) work, based on direct knowledge, is if you are paying 1.79 for a bottle of O'Hara's rather than 2.49, O'Haras are making up most, or all of the difference.

So yes, it is price gouging - but it's the supplier, rather than the consumer who is being gouged. On the other hand some suppliers are prepared to put up with it because dealing with Tesco does have its benefits, if you understand how to play by their rules.

This is why I am willing to pay €10 for 4 at the Drinkstore rather than €10 for 5 at Tescos. There's a much fairer deal going on between the Brewer, Stockist and Customer in the first instance. Plus, I remember how Tescos screwed over the Irish suppliers when they originally took over Quinnsworth, so I refuse to shop with them in the anyway.
