't Brugs Beertje[/url:186qpsa1] (The Bruges Bear as you already linked to) is a great place. Spent a few great evenings there, and we (n1mbus, a couple of mates and I) were treated really well by Daisy. Although it looks like a cake shop or something from the outside, they have a remarkable selection of beers, and of course go for a plate of nibbles (cheese, salami, pickled onions, strong mustard) to keep you going.

Can I ask you also
a) do you need to know Flemish at all ?
b) do you pay at the end like in Germany or as you go like in Ireland?
c) Is Flemish Red ale & Oud Bruin widely available ?

Thanks for you helpful replies <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->

Great will try to do that

Delirum Cafe is a must stop in Brussels as they hold or held the world record for most bottles of beer available for purchase...[/quote:13pecx6u]

Was told it's a bit touristy but will pop in for one and take a few pics

't Poatersgat[/url:2sawhvd7] in Bruges is another great spot that is a bit less touristy. You won't need Dutch at all really, but it does no harm to learn a phrase or 2. Make sure to try the stoofvlees (Belgian beer stew) while you are there. Best coffee and waffles in town is DeMedici[/url:2sawhvd7]

a: Nope
b: Depends on the place. Most are like in Germany, but when I was in Delerium, in Brussels, it was pay as you go.
c: Yes <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->

Re. Delerium and being touristy, I would say yes, it is a little bit, but it might depend when you go. It's an experience for the beer selection alone, though. Actually, when I was there is was really jammed with young locals, particularly downstairs, all smoking their brains out. Loud music, packed, great beer selection, I quite enjoyed it, but then it was the last stop on a mini pub crawl[/url:1yzxyvsz].

That's a pity 't Brugs Beertje will be closed. It's a great little place, a bit like sitting in your Granny's kitchen. The late Michael Jackson liked it too, and they have a photo of him and Daisy on the wall (or they did when I was there some years ago).
