Train direct from Charleroi to Antwerpen Central (Anvers in French) with that tenner ticket.
Local Brew De Koning in every pub YUM!
Tiny pub with 100 beers.
Traditional local bar food if you look.
Cheap Belgian beer in almost every bar.
Great restaurants.
Cathedral.
Big river.
Did I mention great pubs.
Locals nice too

Antwerp is also home to De Stoemppot, a restaurant which makes my mouth water just thinking about it. They do [i:22k93is4]massive[/i:22k93is4] helpings of stoemp (Flemish mashed potatoes) with sausages and beer. Extra helpings of stoemp are free.

Not suitable for those on Atkins.

Perfect place for a lads night out, in my opinion. All that soakage and lots of beer... mmm. Do they wheelbarrow you back to your hotel afterwards? I can't see myself walking after visiting that place.

Den Engel in the Grote Markt - old style city pub.

There's a pub about a block behind Den Engle called In De Gloria which does amazing local food.

Paters Vatje(100 beers) just alongside the Cathedral north side.

Captain Zepo's - You'll have to ask where that is and there is a really nice little strange bar across the place from it.

De Bevern - near the waterfront it has a crazy mechanical organ in it. ask where it is - it's a bit of a mutant bar but well worth it for the organ and mutant locals!

And loads more - just wander about.
If you want to spoil yourselves, De Kline Zavel is probably the best restaurant I've ever eaten in. Not cheap by Antwerp standards but not so bad compared to what we're used to. You'd need to book.

Thanks for the recommendations...doubt we will be in any resturaunt....good pub grub is the goal...where is the main concentration of pubs old town type area ?
