Kilkenny? 16 years 2 months ago #1

I remember someone complaining recently that there wasn't much in the way of decent beer selection in kilkenny, so I'm willing to drop standards and just ask is there a decent characterful pub somewhere in the town? recommendations from all you locals please!

I haven't been in Kilkenny for a long time but the Marble City Bar was a nice traditional boozer when I visited.

Clears beside the pumphouse is good. Actually most of the pubs down there by the brewery are good. Anaconda is good also. No good beers though. The wine centre is a very good off licence.

Hendricat visited there before[/url:3s7wxwh7].

a nice place indeed. Not much beer, but you can see the shiny equipment of the diageo brewery from the window.. almost makes it worse

they had a massive whiskey selection though. Tynan's bridge house was one of the nicest pubs I've been in in a long while, again no beer. The grapevine wine bar had an ad saying they had o'haras, we'd already ordered a bottle of wine at that stage so I never found out. They seemed to have a couple of bottles of beer though. their website has duvel in the picture.

The wine centre has a great selection. Got a london porter and a flensburger bock. Very nice

someone seriously needs to open a brewpub in kilkenny though. Such a nice town (city) otherwise.

and for any foodlovers don't miss campagne. One of the best meals I've ever had, and reasonable (considering it's one of the best restaurants in the country IMO)

I hit Kilkenny every year for the Cat Laughs festival and the complaint has always been about the lack of decent beer.

Decent pubs:
Tynans Bridge House
Cleres (both already mentioned)
Morrisons (or is it Morriseys?)
Kytelers
Egans

Langtons stretches over 3 time zones. And if you are into contemporary/chinzy pubs there's the Hibernian, The Left Bank and the Kilford Arms.

A second vote here for Campagne- And on a sad note Fléva closed down last November.
