Madrid? 16 years 3 months ago #1

Any beer tips for Madrid or should I stick to Rioja and pigmeat?

Pete Brown's book "three sheets to the wind" has a chapter on spain, a large portion of which is madrid. It's also a good read worth looking at anyway. I don't remember the specifics re: madrid but I remember he had a good time

Cider!

There are lots of places doing really good Asturian cider -- make sure you order "sider seco" or "sider natural", if you're offered something that comes in a champagne bottle, that's not what you're after. Don't miss the cider-basted chicken (with cider) at Casa Mingo: recommended to me by dereko1969 and one of the best eaty-drinky experiences I had in Madrid.

There are two brewpubs quite close to each other: Magister and Naturbier. Neither are really up to much. Magister gives you free tapas with your drink. Also nearby there's a fantastic sherry bar called La Venencia, which is well worth whiling away an evening in.

I've more details on my blog here[/url:25f6cx7o] and here[/url:25f6cx7o].

Just finishing it at the moment. Great read! I think there may have been a micro off one of the squares. Didnt notice it myself but I was not looking for it. Apart from that Pete seems to just chow down with the local brew...apparently the Spanish are quite territorial with their beers..and wash it down with loadsa tapas.

Lovely city. Hoping to go back in a few months time.Let me know how you get on.

Now now, that was obviously a typo.

What he meant to say was 'washing beer down with beer'
