Cheers again for the recommendations. Didn't get around too many places but managed to get to Hops&Barley for a few hours. Had a lovely wheat beer and then a fantastic "Bavaria Ale". Was a bit late in the evening to question the staff on it but my guess is that it was a wheat/pils grist and a good dose of American hops fermented with a neutral ale yeast. Very refreshing in the hot weather.
Had a very nice American IPA from Lemke and then a not so nice rotbier at Marcus Brau brewpub. Visited the Hofbrauhaus as well and whilst it is the German equivalent of Temple Bar it was good craic and their weiss beer alone is worth it anyway. I tried, and failed to get a Berliner Weiss without the syrup but the waiter's English wasn't great or else he was flat out refusing to serve it to me so I had to end up having the red syrup.
Also had a lovely dry cider called Ostmost (made in Berlin too). All in all, a good trip and there was plenty of craft to be found both in the bars as well as the beer shops.
